(Hoboken) City budget cuts have threatened to close the Boys and Girls Club swimming pool, the only outdoor swimming pool in the city.
But after the public raised concern at the City Council meeting this week, Mayor David Roberts “guaranteed” that that the city would open the pool this summer.
The pool costs the city $20,000 per year, and the city may be able to find a match of $10,000 from local charities.
Another city official said a guarantee might have been premature and said the city “will work to the best of their capacity to fund it.”
Mayoral candidate Peter Cammarano donated $1,000 this week and fellow candidate Dawn Zimmer followed suit with a pledge to donate.
