A 66-year-old Hoboken resident was killed when the vehicle she was driving lost control on the west bound side of Route 495.
According to Traffic Commander Lt. James Sommers, the car had two occupants and drove off the road onto the grass median where Route 495 splits into Route 3 West.
Sommers said that the vehicle hit a rock, flipped over and the driver was “partially ejected” from the car.
North Bergen Police received the call at 11:56 a.m. today.
He said the other passenger, a 77-year-old Hoboken woman, was in stable condition and transported to Jersey City Medical Center.
Co-Director of the North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue Jeff Welz said that west bound traffic was almost backed up to the Lincoln Tunnel toll booths until the road was reopened around 3 p.m.
Welz said NHRFR, Secaucus and State Police assisted at the scene of the accident. – Tricia Tirella.
