The five police officers injured during a shootout on Reed Street in Jersey City Thursday morning were still recovering as of Monday morning. However, there were mixed reports about Officer Marc DiNardo, who was the most seriously injured. The 37-year-old was shot in the face. Sources said that he had passed away around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night but that the information was being kept private for personal reasons; however, the official sources said he was still in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center as of Monday.
Jersey City police spokesperson Lt. Edgar Martinez and a city spokesperson both said Monday morning that DiNardo had not passed away.
Michael Camacho, 25, was upgraded to “serious but guarded,” reports said.
The three others, including two JCPD officers and a Port Authority officer, were less seriously injured. The two robbery suspects in the shootout were killed by gunfire.
