During Monday night’s rally against Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano, flyers were passed out with a color photo of Cammarano and lettering on top saying “Peter Cammarano legal defense fund.”
The perpetrators may be collecting money — but not for the defense of the mayor, who was infamously arrested last week on federal exortion charges. The flyer says the group’s spokesman is “Cuthbert J. Twillie” (a W.C. Fields creation) and that they will accept money at the local diner.
The address given, cammaranodefense.org, actually links to shirts with satirical pictures and graphics related to the mayor’s situation, which according to the site can be ordered for $15-$20 each.
Interestingly, the person who paid to register the site is, according to the internet, someone who runs a local tourist organization.
The rally on Monday drew several hundred protestors who would like the mayor to resign. Cammarano has said he will not resign.
