A private funeral service took place July 17 for Joseph F. Arcuri, Jr. He passed away July 14 at Christ Hospital, Jersey City, succumbing to a long battle against kidney disease. Mr. Arcuri was a lifelong resident of Jersey City. His only time away was during service to his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Arcuri retired from the Jersey City Public Schools in 2001 after many years of service as a security officer at Ferris High School, from which he graduated, and was a member of a championship track and field team. Mr. Arcuri ran at the Penn Relays. A member of the AFSCME, Local 2262, Mr. Arcuri was an active participant in many local elections, and a community leader in his neighborhood. He leaves behind a number of friends who remember his daily walks to the Square. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Nancy Arcuri, also a lifelong resident of Jersey City. He was the son of the late Joseph and Carmella Arcuri. He was a brother to Mrs. Connie Perri, of Toms River, and the late Anthony Arcuri and Corporal Nicholas Arcuri, who died in battle in Korea.
