The Torres family sadly announces the death of Miguel “Mike” Angel Torres (Aponte), husband, father, brother, community activist and friend of many. Mike, who was 60 years old, has been in everyone’s hearts and prayers since he died on June 23, in Aibonito, Puerto Rico. He has been laid to rest in the highest elevations, closer to the heavens. Mike volunteered to serve in Vietnam, which motivated his brothers, Oscar and Rafael to enter military service. His community service and activism were well known in the downtown area. As an Aide to Mayor Gerald McCann, Mike would rally to advance Hispanic Representation in Politics and Social programs. He worked on summer food programs with Aspiria, CETA, PACO and County Affordable Housing. Mike is survived by his wife, Olga Torres; his son, Miguel; and his daughters, Natalia and Tania. He was the son of the late Antonio Torres Sanchez and Floratina Torres; the brother of the late Martha Gonzalez, Nancy and Barbie Torres, the late Antonio Jr., Ben, Ricardo, Oscar, Rafael, Arturo and Edwardo Torres. He leaves grandchildren, cousins and family in Jersey City, in Puerto Rico and in Illinois. Services arranged by the Bromirski Funeral Home, Jersey City.
