A funeral mass was offered Aug. 11 at Our Lady of Mercy Church for Dr. Gabriel E. Pettinato, 87. He died Aug. 8 at Compassionate Care Hospice at the Atrium, Jersey City. The lifelong Jersey City resident was the son of the late Rose (Longobucco) and Joseph Pettinato. He received his bachelor’s degree in History and English at St. Peter’s College, his master’s degree in Education from Seton Hall University and his doctorate in education from Florida State University. Scheduled to retire this coming Sept. 1, his career span included being a History teacher and Guidance Counselor at Snyder High School before becoming Vice Principal of Dickinson High School from 1969 to date. He was a member of the Hudson County University Club, the Hudson County Supervisors and Administrators Club and a supporter of the Policeman’s Benevolent Fund. An avid hunter, he was a member of the National Rifle Association where he formerly was a Hunter Safety Instructor. He was the husband of Margaret Bock Pettinato; the brother of Rose Corso, Richard Pett and the late Joseph Pettinato, Jr., Mae Banke, Constance P. Nichols and Ann Kinloch. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Services arranged by the Greenville Memorial Home, Jersey City.
