The Jersey City Police Department is scheduling a press conference at 2 p.m. this afternoon to show videotape of the July 16 Reed St. shootout that led to several police officers being wounded and one, Officer Marc DiNardo, being killed. The alleged shooter, Hassian Hosendove, and his girlfriend were also killed in the shootout.
Jersey City police spokesperson Lt. Edgar Martinez did not give a reason for the release of the video other than to say “it shows a shootout” and that reporters should wait until the press conference for more details.
However, the video screening may be in response to criticism by the public that the police made tactical errors that could have prevented a shootout.
The Jersey City Police Depatment is also doing an internal review of police action in the Reed Street incident. Police Chief Thomas Comey, in an interview with WABC-TV on Tuesday, said that the results of the review will be released in the near future. – Ricardo Kaulessar
