When Coldplay’s Chris Martin took the stage at All Points West’s final day, he commended concert goers for trucking along in what he called a “mud Jacuzzi.”
The festival was delayed for four hours due to severe thunderstorms and ticket holders were told to wait out to bad weather at the Liberty State Park ferry terminal. When the rain stopped, the sun came out and people made the best of the mud it left behind by raucously dancing in it.
A few of the bands’ sets were cancelled because of the hold up, but most of the main acts were able to play for a grateful crowd.
The Silversun Pickups were a crowd pleaser, while We Are Scientists caused some to dance in the mud with joy.
Coldplay performed for screaming fans as yellow balloons floated in the crowd, lasers flashed and images played behind them on a jumbo screen.
Headliners MGMT, the Black Keys, Echo and the Bunnymen, Elbow and Mogwai also took the stage.
While most would have preferred for the ground to be a little less soggy, most took the day in stride.
“This is my first All Points West [festival and] I thought it was awesome, minus the schedule changes for today,” said Samantha Santasiero. “The lineup was perfect. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs was my favorite performance. I love the rain, it made it more interesting. I’ll definitely never forget how much rain it was.” – Tricia Tirella
