The Democratic dominoes continue to fall. According to the Burlington County Times, the head of that county’s Democratic party has resigned effective Sept. 1, possibly because he’s connected to a PAC that donated money to Hoboken’s former mayor, Peter Cammarano.
The story states:
“Rick Perr has given up his seat as chairman of the Burlington County Democratic Committee.
“Perr tendered his resignation to party Vice Chairwoman Alice Furia in an e-mail around 10 p.m. Monday night.
“Perr’s resignation comes after a Sunday newspaper story revealed his ties to the Medford-based New Frontier Committee, a political action committee that donated more than $19,000 to a North Jersey politician arrested in a federal political corruption sting.
“The county party’s treasurer, Jeff Meyer, resigned earlier this month, citing personal reasons, after new reports revealed he was fundraising for that politician, former Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano III.
“Politicians from all levels of government joined the call for Perr’s resignation Monday in light of his connection to New Frontier.
“Republicans first raised issue with New Frontier after 44 politicians, local officials and rabbis were arrested in a federal corruption and money laundering scheme last month. New Frontier donated $19,100 to Cammarano and a joint account he shared with his Hoboken City Council running mates. “Republicans also accused the PAC as being a vehicle for wheeling, a practice that allows donors to circumvent individual candidate campaign contribution limits by donating funds to the committee, which can then make donations to candidates.”
Wheeling – that’s something to keep an eye out for…we’re sure you’ll see more of it.
