The Associate Dean for Institutional Research & Planning at Hudson County Community College, Sathasivam (Kris) Krishnan, has been selected as a Fellow for the 2009 Association for Institutional Research (AIR) and the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). HCCC President Dr. Glen Gabert announced the award last week, and said that as an AIR-NCES Fellow, Dean Krishnan will receive $12,800 over a two-year period. Dr. Gabert said the AIR-NCES Fellowship program supports men and women in institutional research to strengthen their skills by funding relevant coursework. Dean Krishnan, who is working on his doctoral degree at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J., will apply the Fellowship award toward his studies. Additionally, he will attend the AIR National Summer Data Policy Institute, an intensive study of NCES and National Science Foundation datasets either in 2010 or 2011. Travel and expenses for the Institute will be paid by AIR in addition to the Fellowship. Krishnan has served as Associate Dean for Institutional Research & Planning at Hudson County Community College since 2007. Prior to that time, he was Director of Research at the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education, and Assistant Director of Research at the New Jersey Department of Higher Education. He was instrumental in establishing the Student Unit Record for Enrollment (SURE) data system, the performance funding mechanism and database that underlies New Jersey’s “Blueprint for Excellence,” the State’s long-range plan for higher education. Dean Krishnan holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sri Venkateswara University (India). He has also done graduate coursework at the University of Oklahoma. “Our hearty congratulations to Dean Krishnan! The faculty, staff and students of Hudson County Community College are exceptionally proud of all he has done and especially this accomplishment,” Dr. Gabert said.
