North Bergen Police arrested a Belleville man who allegedly hit another vehicle and a construction worker on Tonnelle Avenue and was found to be allegedly intoxicated.
According to Capt. Robert Dowd, early Monday morning at 12:52 a.m., a detective was working off-duty for Tarheel Construction as they continued the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s widening and repaving project.
This detective then witnessed an allegedly erratic driver, Angelo Lopez, 35, of Belleville, weaving through traffic in his Audi heading North on Tonnelle Avenue.
Lopez, the driver, allegedly hit a car he was trying to get around, a green Honda, which was forced off the road. So on after, the vehicle he struck allegedly hit a Tarheel worker, forcing him to the ground, said Dowd.
The victim was treated for injuries to his leg, but Dowd said his injuries were minor.
Lopez allegedly was driving with a blood alcohol level of .09, past New Jersey’s legal intoxication level of .08.
