NYC tourists booking rooms in NJ

A Bloomberg newspaper reports today that NYC is trying to stave off its tourism plunge. But it hasn’t worked for everyone. One Irish tourist is quoted as saying she booked her hotel room in Weehawken to avoid New York’s crime.
The story says Weehawken is a 15-minute bus ride away. Note: It is actually right across the river and you can see the Manhattan skyline from your hotel. The ferry to midtown Manhattan is also right next door to the hotel, if any of you other tourists read this and want to stay in Weehawken instead! Hoboken and Jersey City also have some lovely waterfront hotels.
Also note that hotels here in Jersey are cheaper and more spacious. So take a look.
The publication writes:
“Adele Sloan, who arrived in New York from Tyrone County, Northern Ireland with her husband and two sons in mid-August, walked through lower Manhattan, viewing the site of the September 11, 2001, World Trade Center attack, Wall Street and New York harbor from the Staten Island Ferry.
“Sloan, 48, a high-school principal who last visited the city in 1987, said she’d been so leery of crime she booked her family’s room in Weehawken, New Jersey, a 15-minute bus ride away.
“I’m shocked at how safe I feel and how clean everything is,” she said upon emerging from the Port Authority Bus Terminal. “We’re not really shoppers. We want to experience the feel of the city.”
