Officials to revisit state takeover this week

City officials will appear before the state’s Local Finance Board on Wednesday to argue that the state financial takeover of city government is no longer necessary after one year of monitoring, according to Acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer.
The state board will decide whether or not to continue the intervention, and sources say it is likely to continue for another year. If that is the case, it is also likely that the city will petition the state again once a budget is passed and a new mayor is permanently in place following the November election.

A tribute mass will be celebrated at the Church of Our Lady of Grace and St. Joseph, 400 Willow Ave., on Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m.
The mass is open to all and will honor the Hoboken Police, Fire, and Volunteer Ambulance Corp, and the Port Authority Police. It also will be celebrated in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the tragedy.
