The New Jersey Clean Communities Council (NJCC) recently announced its 2009 “Clean Teen” student honorees, recognizing Garden State teens committed to keeping New Jersey clean and green. Students from the Frank R. Conwell Middle School #4 from Jersey City were honored with Clean Communities Student Exchange Awards for their hard work and ongoing dedication towards keeping their community clean through innovative environmental activities.
The Jersey City Urban Cleanup Team was also recognized at the program for its hard work and dedication.
The recipients were recognized during the New Jersey Clean Communities Council’s Sixth Annual Kids for Clean Communities Seminar & Awards Program on May 19 at the Roger Treat Hotel in Newark. The awards presentation was part of the kick-off celebration for the NJCC’s new statewide public education anti-litter campaign called Slam Dunk the Junk. The campaign is aimed at New Jersey residents and visitors to participate in keeping New Jersey clean and green. About 25—students, teachers and volunteers participated in the event.
“We are excited to honor these students for their commitment to environmental clean-up and protection,” said Clean Communities Council Executive Director Sandy Huber. “Cleaning up our communities and state is a priority that we share with these students and we hope that this relationship continues to grow.”
New Jersey Clean Communities oversees litter abatement programs as well as public education throughout the state.
