The Guttenberg Police Department is making historical strides under the leadership of Mayor Gerald Drasheff, the town’s first Police Captain Joel Magenheimer, and Police Director Michael Caliguiro of West New York. This time Guttenberg has created its first Police Honor Guard, under the proud watch of Captain Magenheimer, and he could not be happier!!!
The commander of the Honor Guard is Sgt. Edward Frischkorn, and Sgt. Victor Conversano is its vice-commander. The other members are Police Investigator Jeffrey Lugo, Police Officer Leonardo Ramirez, and Police Investigator Michael Meawad, a total of five very proud members!
Honor Guard Commander/Sgt. Frischkorn tells us that the town government and Captain Magenheimer worked very hard to guide the creation of the Honor Guard, and that the Police Regalia had to be chosen carefully, which took some time to accomplish.
Commander Frischkorn tells us that he is very proud to be the first commander of the town’s first honor guard, and will do all he can to bring professionalism to all its duties. Sgt. Frischkorn also tells us that he has been a member of the Guttenberg Police Department since 1978, and 24 of those 31 years, he has worked as a full-time police officer. Sgt. Frischkorn is married to his lovely wife Suzanne, and they have a son named Edward Jr. Furthermore Sgt. Frischkorn tells us that he was born in New York City, and raised in Union City, and then moved to Guttenberg in 1973. Moreover, Sgt. Frischkorn tells us that he is a graduate of the Anna L. Klein School in Guttenberg, and also a graduate of North Bergen High School. Afterward, Sgt. Frischkorn moved to West New York, after his marriage to his lovely wife.
Sgt. Frischkorn notes that the duties of the Honor Guard will consist of providing services on holidays, such as Memorial Day, Flag Day, Labor Day, etc., and performing ceremonial services for swearing-in of officials, promotional ceremonies, school graduations, and memorial services of deceased town employees, like the most recent memorial ceremony held for a former deceased Mayor James Hannon! Other duties will be held for parades, award ceremonies, and such other duties and ceremonies as directed by the Mayor and Town Council, and Captain Magenheimer, and of course, lest we forget the 150th Anniversary of the Town of Guttenberg!
Sgt. Frischkorn also tells us that he and his wife celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary this past June, 2009 and that his wife was born in Hoboken, and is a former registered nurse at Palisades General Hospital in North Bergen. Sgt. Frischkorn’s hobbies away from his police-work is repairing computers, and riding a motorcycle. His favorite sporting teams are the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and New York Jets. Sgt. Frischkorn is a member of the New Jersey Police Benevolent Association, New Jersey Honor Legion, New York City Honor Legion and the German-American Steuben Police Association/Philadelphia, Pa.; and the Jersey City Police Emerald Society. Sgt. Frischkorn also mentions that before becoming a sergeant, he was a police investigator, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1997. Now also becoming the commander of the honor guard is a true personal honor for him in his professional career.
Some of the awards that Sgt. Frischkorn has received were the Exceptional Police Service Award in 1993 from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, from then Bureau Director William Sessions. He has also received two-Police Life Savings Awards, and many others, but too many to mention here! Sgt. Frischkorn finally states that this new town honor guard could never be created without the support of Mayor Drasheff, Captain Magenheimer, and Police Director Caliguiro, and that he and the honor guard are proud to serve the town. Well Sgt. Edward Frischkorn and the rest of the members of the Honor Guard, your superiors tell us that they are proud of all of you, too! All the best!!! …
Carlos Garcia and Jahaira Martinez of Union City have recently been inducted into the New Jersey City University Chapter of the National Spanish Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi. Congratulations! ……
Residents of The Harborage nursing home and rehabilitation center in North Bergen, namely Rose Donato, Delores Rocco, Margaret Sganga, Lorraine Slaman, and Angela Spadevecchia, recently held a food drive/fund raiser to support the Palisades Emergency Residence Corporation, and collected approximately $1,200 in donations. These five wonderful ladies were some of the volunteer fundraisers. Great going gals!!! ……
We hear from Holly Pizzuta of Weehawken, that her cousin Kimberley Kingsbury, also of Weehawken, is no longer the exalted ruler of the Weehawken Elks Lodge, but still travels on behalf of Elks Lodge business to cross-country meetings and events, which is good for net-working, and keeping their membership up-to-date on issues and events. By the way, Holly is the daughter of former Hudson County Freeholder Francis “Frank” Pizzuta. Best Wishes to the Pizzuta Family! ……
Secaucus Councilman Michael Gonnelli tells us that his youth was lived in and around the Fourth Street area of Downtown Jersey City, not far from the Fourth and Monmouth Streets area where this columnist was raised. Wonder if Councilman Gonnelli’s parents knew my parents!?!? The world grows forever smaller!!!
And so it goes …… until next time …… see you around town …… “MATT” ………
