Another year of state takeover

City officials appeared before the state’s Local Finance Board on Wednesday to argue that the state financial takeover of city government is no longer necessary after one year of monitoring.
However, the board decided to continue the financial monitoring. They have set out certain milestones for the city to achieve before the monitoring can end, according to Acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer.
Passing a city budget, completing the annual audit, and providing a corrective action plan for negative audit findings are just a few things that the city will need to do before the state will reconsider releasing the city from oversight.
Zimmer said the state is also requiring the city to put a business administrator in place, but until that time Fiscal Monitor Judy Tripodi will continue to perform those services.

Two more directors added

Acting Mayor Dawn Zimmer announced on Friday her appointment of Brandy Forbes to be director of the Department of Community Development and Leo Pellegrini to be director of Health and Human Services in City Hall.
Zimmer said Forbes brings a wealth of local government experience and most recently was the township planner for Edison. Forbes also worked as assistant township administrator for Maplewood and as the city administrator in Solon, Iowa. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa, where she majored in economics. She also received her Masters of Arts from the University of Iowa in urban and regional planning.
Pellegrini brings extensive private sector experience, Zimmer said in a release, and is leaving his post as a senior financial services officer. Pellegrini serves as the director of Hoboken’s travel soccer team and has a strong passion for Hoboken’s recreational activities. Pellegrini is a graduate of Montclair State University, where he majored in business administration.
