Dear Editor:
Good article on the garden at third and Jackson Street (August 23); but shouldn’t these gardeners get their soil tested? I did, and shared the results with your readers in a letter (June 25, 2006). The Rutgers test warned that leafy vegetables grown in this soil should not be consumed. The contamination came from leaded gasoline not phased out until 1986. If lead is in my backyard garden, it probably is in theirs too.
