The five-screen uptown movie theater in Hoboken is almost ready to open, but construction amendments must be approved by the city’s Planning Board on Wednesday night in order to meet a Oct. 15 grand opening, a source said.
Project officials need approval for increased sound-proofing on the roof, among other last minute changes. The already-completed structure is located at 14th Street between Adams and Grand streets.
Getting the promised theater open has been a prolonged process and included many active parties: owner Cablevision; manager Clearview Cinemas; property owner URSA Development; and the city.
Beth Simpson, a spokesperson for Clearview, said today that no opening date has been made public by Clearview Cinemas, and that more information will follow the board meeting on Wednesday. (It was an unnamed source familiar with the development who said that they are shooting for Oct. 15.)
She called the eleventh-hour amendments “part of the process,” and said that she “fully anticipates” board approvals.
However, a source said there were several issues during construction. Disorganized planning, the source claimed, is what lands you before a city board just weeks before opening. — TJC
