A lot to do in JC this weekend

Think there’s nothing going on this weekend in Jersey City? Think again.
On Saturday, Jersey City native and Hollywood actor Derek Luke (“Antwone Fisher,” “Notorious” and the NBC drama “Trauma”) will be a featured speaker at Back to School J.U.M.P. Off, an event being held at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, 47-49 Kearney Ave. and the M.L.K. Hub Parking Lot, 386 Martin Luther King Drive from 1 to 8 p.m. Free to the public and all ages welcome.
Also on Saturday, the Liberty Science Center will be holding their second annual Heroes Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. where children and adults get to meet law enforcement officers and participate in various activities. The center is located at 222 Jersey City Blvd. (near Liberty State Park). All Heroes Day activities are free with paid admission to Liberty Science Center.
On Sunday, Jersey City Police Chief Thomas Comey and Jersey City Fire Chief Michael O’Reilly will battle in a cook-off at Edwards Steakhouse on Marin Blvd. from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event will benefit the Det. Marc Anthony DiNardo Memorial Fund. $25 donation per person is requested. Other activities include face painting, magic show, 50/50 drawings and raffles.
Then, the following weekend is the Jersey City Artist Studio Tours. Check out the story in the Entertainment section of this weekend’s Jersey City Reporter. – RK
