Once the leaves hit the ground and the kids start looking for candy handouts, autumn has arrived.
Autumn is, according to Emily Dickenson, “A few prosaic days / a little this side of the snow and that side of the haze.”
So before the snow comes, get out and enjoy some of these fall events. Also check out the new costume shop on Washington Street in Hoboken for Halloween costume ideas. Ricky’s Halloween Store even has Michael Jackson and Bernie Madoff masks.
Harvest fests
The Hoboken Harvest Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pier A Park. Stop by the festival for pumpkin painting, hayrides, live music, apple cider, and more.
The Ragamuffin parade will take place on Halloween, Oct. 31.

The 20-stop tour is designed so that visitors can walk from one studio or exhibition to the next. Visitors will have a chance to meet the artists, photographers, sculptors and artisans in their own studios, where they can witness the creative process at work.

For the kids
The city will host the annual Ragamuffin Parade on Saturday, Oct. 31. The children’s Halloween parade down Washington Street also includes a costume contest by a panel of judges from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Little League Field, Fifth Street and River Terrace.
Other autumn events for the kids include two local stage shows.
Hudson Theater Ensemble’s Silly on Sixth is performing “Goldilocks and the 3 Bears” on October 24, 25, and 31 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Hudson School, Sixth and Hudson streets. Tickets are $8 per adult, $6 per child.
The Mile Square Theater is performing “Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse” from Oct. 23 through Nov. 8 on Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The performance is at 720 Monroe St. Tickets are $20 per adult, $12 per child.
