Alzheimer’s benefit walk is Oct. 31 in Liberty State Park

Dear Editor:
Plans for the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter’s inaugural Liberty State Park Regional Memory Walk are well underway! On Oct. 31, 2009, thanks to our dedicated staff and community volunteers, hundreds of Hudson County and surrounding area residents, businesses and organizations will come together in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. There has never been a more critical time to act than now because before you finish reading this letter, someone somewhere in the United States will be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
Teams are being formed and awareness is spreading. Our passionate Memory Walk committee members have been busy passing out flyers at various community events such as cultural festivals and places of worship. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed. We are truly grateful to all of our Liberty State Park Regional Memory Walk committee members: Marianne Alfano; Debra Barrett; Mahaley Bowles; Jules Carricarte; Donald Evanson; Aurora “Nelly” Flores; Susan Flores; Rosa Hidalgo; Neil McGarrity; Ramonita Roman; Fleurdelis Rosario-Cruz; Gene Royzman; Gary Squier; and Adam Strosberg.
Your efforts, and those of all Memory Walk participants, will help support vital programs and services for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and their care partners in New Jersey. Not only is participation in Memory Walk an empowering experience, it’s also fun! Children can enjoy participating in the traditional Halloween costume contest and having their faces decorated by a professional face painter. There will be a musical performance by Loretta Hagen, refreshments, and much more. There is still time to sign up to walk as an individual or start or join a team. Visit www.alznj.org, or call (201) 261-6009, to register and for more information.

Sincerely,
Patricia Lombreglia
