WEST NEW YORK–According to reports from the U.S. attorney’s office, Tommaso Calautti, an ex-West New York Department of Public Works employee, was sentenced to one year in prison, ordered to pay approximately $21,000 in restitution to the township, and will receive three years supervised release after of his one-year prison term, for allegedly taking at least $30,000 in bribes from three contractors who were asking to work for the city.
Calautti worked as an engineer for the town of West New York for five years until July 2008 and reviewed construction and maintenance bids. In April, Calautti pleaded guilty to a charge of obstructing and attempting to obstruct interstate commerce after admitting to taking the bribes, according to U.S. Attorney records. The case was handled by special agents of the FBI.
