Hoboken Volunteers successful launch event

Dear Editor:
On Tuesday December 1st more than 200 people attended the launch party for Hoboken Volunteers at the Black Bear Bar & Grill in Hoboken. Hoboken Volunteers is a non-profit organization founded to provide an online clearinghouse where residents can connect with other organizations, foundations, and groups who require the assistance of volunteers.
Founded with the mission to encourage members of the community to donate their time to worthwhile organizations, Hoboken Volunteers served as host to more than a dozen organizations at the event, providing a platform for them to share literature and information about their organization with potential volunteers.
As Hoboken Volunteers’ founder and Executive Director, I felt the success of the launch event spoke volumes about the character of the Hoboken community. When you see the outstanding turnout of the organizations and our fellow Hoboken residents, you can’t help but be humbled by their willingness to give back to their community. While we are thrilled with the success of the event, what is perhaps more important is what the success represents – a strong foundation that we can build and strengthen our community on.
More than 150 people signed up with Hoboken Volunteers at the launch party, with more and more joining through the web site, HobokenVolunteers.com, each day. In addition to becoming part of the volunteer network, members receive newsletters and updates from Hoboken Volunteers.
We feel that this is only the beginning and we are really excited about future projects we intend to coordinate through the Hoboken Volunteers membership. We ask that you help raise awareness for Hoboken Volunteers by informing your friends, family, and neighbors about our website.
We would like to especially thank Hoboken’s small business owners for putting up our posters helping us promote the event. We would also like to thank the Black Bear Bar & Grill for an outstanding job hosting our launch party.
In addition to all our new members that signed up at the launch party, Hoboken Volunteers would like to thank the following organizations who participated in the event:
Boys Scouts of America – Troop 146
Hoboken Boys & Girls Club
Hoboken Division of Cultural Affairs
Hoboken Historical Museum and Cultural Center
