STATEWIDE — Tonight is the MTV premiere of a reality show about New Jersey’s young people partying down at Seaside Heights for a summer. The show, “Jersey Shore,” follows the travails of the “tannest guidos,” according to an MTV commercial for it that has some people offended.
Starting at 10 p.m. tonight, with a special two-hour premiere, we get to watch them bulk up, fight, live, love, and party in da shore houses and clubs.
Do you find the concept offensive? Does it promote stereotypes of New Jersey? (Actually, only TWO of the partiers are from the Garden State; one is even from Rhode Island.)
Some Italian-American groups are offended by the term “Guido,” although one cast member said it’s a lifestyle, not a slur. Not everyone on the show is Italian.
Come here afterward and tell us what you thought of the show!
