Public opinion sought about illegal apartments

BAYONNE — Bayonne Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that his administration is preparing to take action against illegal apartments and unregistered dwelling units.
“I am very concerned about this serious problem in our community. Illegal apartments and unregistered dwelling units lead to unsafe living conditions, overcrowding in schools, and neighborhood parking problems,” Smith said. “Representatives of several municipal offices have been meeting to discuss possible ordinance revisions that would give the city additional enforcement powers to address this problem. I look forward to the results of their meetings, and will push for the introduction and passage of an ordinance with tough enforcement powers as soon as possible.”
The administration has posted a poll about the illegal housing issue on the City of Bayonne’s website, which is www.bayonnenj.org. The icon for the poll is located in the lower right corner of the website’s homepage. Prospective participants can click on the icon, in order to gain access to the six questions in the poll. Smith encouraged Bayonne residents to express their views on illegal apartments by taking part in the survey, which will be posted through Dec. 31.
