The sports enthusiast and political supporter

Dear Editor:
It was proper for Election Day and the World Series to coincide for, in so many ways, the atmosphere surrounding these events is similar.
The baseball fan is led to believe that by supporting the team will somehow share in the rewards of the victory when, in actuality, aside from being able to boast of having backed a winner, his position will be less than insignificant, while being more financially burdened.
In the political arena, the leaders of both parties promise that the loyal and faithful supporters of the cause will march arm in arm, thereby sharing in the triumph. However, much like the baseball fan, with a few exceptions for favored followers, the average voter finds his or her position little changed.
Despite this situation, the sports enthusiast and the political supporter continue to act as if they were a part of the eventual triumphs instead of realizing an obvious fact. The sports owners and the political organizations will continue to allow the follower to embrace the belief that he or she is a beneficiary of the victory instead of being a mere pawn in enabling those in power to thrive.
Until the public realizes that they are being used rather than being able to rightfully share in favorable results and prices are being raised in sports and promises broken in politics, the voters will continue to return to lives that have not changed at all.
