Suspects and semi-automatic handguns captured during alleged home invasion

UNION CITY — Three alleged assailants and several semi-automatic handguns were captured by Union City Police during an alleged home invasion robbery last Friday, Dec. 18.
Union City police were tipped off that a robbery would take place in an area of uptown Union City, they said. According to police, they set up surveillance in the area with a team of uniformed and plainclothes officers.
Just after 10:30 p.m., officers saw suspects coming out of the location that the tipsters gave. The suspect met two other suspects but when one of them saw a uniformed officer, they allegedly started to “quickly leave the area.”
Police ran after the suspects and apprehended all three of them. Police said that when they were caught, they had not finished robbing the location.
After searching their vehicle, police said they found two fully loaded semiautomatic handguns. A 9mm Lugar and a 9mm Intractec (Tech-9).
Edgardo Rivera (26) of Jersey City, Roberto Olmeda-Gonzalez (26) of Union City, and Luz Castro (23) of Union City were charged with criminal attempt (for the robbery), conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of a defaced firearm.
