Find your lover!

Local hotel to host large speed dating event

The road to true love is never easy, but that doesn’t mean one should give up the fight, says Karen Robinovitz. Robinovitz, who is happily married and living in Manhattan, went on 150 dates over the course of several months before finding Mr. Right.
But who has time for that? Robinovitz will speed up the process for tri-state singles by holding a record-breaking “Find Your Luvah” speed dating event at the W Hotel on the Hoboken waterfront on Jan. 29.
With over 200 singles from Manhattan and Hudson County pre-registered, the event will provide plenty of potential matches.
The event will be held to strict time limits due to the large number of attendees. Each “date” will be only three minutes long, with the guys rotating among the tables of women. The event, which will be held in the Great Room at the W Hoboken, is from 7 to 10 p.m. with the actual speed dating round running about an hour.

At three minutes a date, each participant will have approximately 20 dates. The event targets singles 21 to 35.
Beginning at 7 p.m., the event will be hosted by VH1’s “Tough Love” matchmaker Steve Ward.
Those looking for love will have help from guru Ward and the sponsors, who promise to arm attendees with everything they need for dates – like fresh breath and plumped lips.

Three minutes to impress

Jeannine Morris, who lives in Manhattan, said the lush surroundings of the W Hoboken were enough to convince her to sign up for the event.
“The W is gorgeous,” said Morris. “There aren’t too many events that would convince me to leave the city.”
That and a little encouragement from friends got her to sign up for her first speed dating event.
“I’m being very open-minded,” said Morris. “I go on dates all the time. My friends say I’m picky. I like that it moves quickly, because in three minutes, I know if I want to see a guy again.”
Another first-timer, Hobokenite Jim Coletti, heard about the event through his buddy’s girlfriend. Coletti has never been speed dating or dated online, he said.
“This is going to be my first one, so I don’t really know what to expect,” said Coletti. “Considering this is essentially a series of blind dates, I’m not setting my expectations too high. But we’ll see what happens.”

Looking for love?

First timers Morris and Coletti both think that a love match isn’t very likely.
“I definitely don’t think I’ll meet the love of my life,” laughs Morris. “I’m hoping to meet a guy that I click with and I’d like to spend more than three minutes with.”
She stressed that she is looking to simply have fun.
“I am not one of those crazy girls looking to find Mr. Right and fall in love,” she said. “If it happens, great, but I wouldn’t expect that from three minutes.”
Coletti hopes he’ll meet a nice girl – crazies need not apply.
“I think the girls are definitely more into it than the guys,” said Coletti. “I’m afraid I’ll meet a girl that will be thinking ‘He’s the one’ right off the bat after three minutes. I’m sure I’ll meet a few weirdos that I just want to get away from.”
Coletti says that his buddies don’t really plan too far ahead, but he expects that a few will join him that night. He offers advice for women: “Be open about yourself. Try not to be awkward. Try to have fun.”
Morris, who dates a lot, isn’t nervous about meeting guys.
“I’m hoping to meet a couple of cool guys,” she said. “I think three minutes is more than enough time, especially with strangers.”
There is a $15 entry fee to participate in the event, with a portion of proceeds going to charity.
After the event, daters will go online to pick their matches. Couple receiving a “match” will be invited back to the W Hoboken for a complimentary cocktail.

A night to remember

The event will be held in the Great Room of the W-Hoboken. Robinovitz, co-creator of beauty brand Purple Lab, will give ladies samples of her lipstick “Luvah,” a lip color that she says is infused with aphrodisiacs.
So pucker up, fellas, the lipstick promises soft lips and increased sensuality.
This is the first speed dating event arranged by Purple Labs, although they plan to host more.
In addition to the free lipstick samples, the hotel will serve hot and cold appetizers.
And if that isn’t enough for the more cynical types, guests 21 and older can indulge in complimentary cocktails by X-Rated Fusion Liquor.
“I hope that everyone who comes will have an amazing time,” said Robinovitz, “or at the very least have a great story to show for it.”

The speed dating event will be held at the W-Hoboken, 225 River St., Hoboken on Jan. 29 from 7 to 10 p.m. For more information about the event, visit: purplelabnyc.com/speeddating.
