Weehawken Recreation opened up the 2010 season in the Hudson County Girls Basketball League, with a with a 27-11 win over Saint Nicks of Jersey City. Both teams started the game with some cold shooting leaving St. Nicks ahead 3-2 after one quarter, with the only Indians points coming from point guard Karina Martinez. Some strong defense and rebounding from Cristal Abud ,Genna Fukuda, Monica Fernandez and additional baskets from Martinez & Fukuda helped Weehawken take an 8 to 6 lead into halftime . Weehawken’s defense dominated for all 14 minutes of the 2nd half by allowing St Nicks to put up 4 points in the third quarter and only 1 point in the 4th quarter. Weehawken extended their lead in the 2nd half with 6 points from Natalie Primero , 5 points from Cristal Abud, a foul shot from Fukuda and an additional 7 points from Martinez who finished with 7 rebounds, 9 steals and a game high 13 points.
