HOBOKEN — An infamous green 11-story tower on the waterfront owned by Stevens Institute of Technology, nicknamed “Big John” or “The Royal Flush” because toilets used to be tested there, is being disassembled.
The tower is adjacent to a Stevens parking lot on Sinatra Drive and was built over 35 years ago to measure the amount of atmospheric pressure required to flush a toilet in a high-rise apartment building.
Stevens officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment last week.
The demolition is part of a construction project going on at Stevens.
