Chiappone jumps into Bayonne mayor’s race

BAYONNE — Assemblyman Anthony Chiappone has notified the Bayonne City Clerk that he will be collecting petition paperwork for a possible run for mayor. Chiappone appeared at City Hall on Feb. 24 along with Denis Wilbeck, his at-large council candidate and Ramon Veloz, candidate for 2nd Ward. Two more candidates to fill the ticket for May elections will likely pick up petition paperwork next week, a spokesperson for Chiappone said.
Chiappone, who is currently under indictment for alleged misuse of assembly aides checks, will challenge Leonard Kantor and Incumbent Mayor Mark Smith in May.
