A mass of Christian burial was offered Feb. 25 at St. Nicholas Church, Jersey City, for Oscar Johnnie Danzey, Sr., 78. He passed away surrounded by his family on Feb. 21 at the Hamilton Park Nursing Home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Henry County, Alabama, he lived most of his life in Jersey City. He was a truck driver for Veeco Services in North Bergen for 21 years, retiring in 1998. Oscar was also a Korean War veteran and served his country proudly. He was one of five children born to the late Willie Mack and Essie Weems and was the husband of Margaret. He will forever be remembered by his brothers, Gus, Fred and Martin and his sister Hazel King. His memory will forever be cherished by his children, Joann Jasiczek and her husband Anthony, Oscar, Jr., William and Matthew Danzey. He was the proud grandfather of five: Joseph, Amanda and Olivia Jasiczek and Dimitri and Atianna Danzey. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends who were blessed to know him. Oscar was a hero who loved his family and worked hard all his life to make sure they were protected. Oscar touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.
