STATEWIDE — Well, the April Fools are in full swing. A Bergen County news website has just posted this:
“An inside source has informed BergenNOW that the Bergen County Board of Freeholders plans to vote to make Bergen County an independent sovereignty – named “Bergen” – as a result of residents’ protests against Governor Chris Christie’s plan to do away with Bergen’s blue laws restricting business operations on Sundays…Along with the name change would come a number of other changes, like a new time zone (“Bergen Standard Time”), a new official state bird (the Canada goose), and a new flag bearing the helmet of the Bergen Giants (formerly known as the “New York Giants”…
“Concern about Bergen County’s secession has apparently been raised in Hudson County, with reported stirrings of a movement by North Bergen to secede from Hudson and become part of the new sovereignty. ‘Because of our name, people always confuse us for being in Bergen County anyway,’ said an anonymous source who asked to be identified only as ‘Mick Shacko.’ ”
Okay, fine, but you forgot the important question: Will we have to get passports in order to go to the malls, or not?!
