Importance of the 2010 Census

Dear Editor:
In the next few weeks the United States Department of Commerce will be sending letters to all residents of every community in this democratic country. The 2010 Census is extremely important because is used to help each community get its fair share of government funds for highways, schools, health facilities, and numerous programs that every community needs. If we as a community do not get counted we will not receive the fair share of the federal money that we truly need and deserve.
Union City and the rest of Hudson County communities cannot count with state aid. The new Republican Governor Chris Christie is not friendly with Urban Communities and aside from his attitude, there is an over two (2) billion dollar deficit in the current State budget. Therefore we as residents of Hudson County desperately need every penny we can get from the federal Government. Here in my Community our Mayor Brian P. Stack is carefully spending City money. Mayor Stack has had difficult time in the past especially when he became the Mayor of this city in two thousand (2000) when the local budget was headed for bankruptcy. Today to keep a balance budget and not to sky high property taxes Brian has a freeze in hiring personnel and is determined to provide sound services to the people of his Community that he soundly represents.

With Respect,
Connie Cordero
