To the Editor:
My name is Doug Sisk and I am a volunteer for the New Jersey Sharing Network, which is a organization responsible for the recovery and placement of donated organs and tissue for New Jersey residents.
April is National Donate Life Month to promote organ and tissue donations. There are over 4,500 people in New Jersey and over 106,000 nation-wide waiting on lists for life saving organs and tissue transplants.
We are trying to get the word out by getting people to say yes to organ donation when you get a new or renew your driving license, so that the words “organ donor” appears on the front of your license. Every time you renew your license you have to tell the Motor Vehicle Commission to put it on your license. If you did not say yes when you renewed or received a new license, you can still do it online at www.donatelifenj.org.
Believe me, it does work. On August 3, 2009, I received a kidney and pancreas transplant from a brave and courageous family, who although they suffered a great tragedy, they donated their daughter’s organs and saved four lives, mine included. So just remember to discuss this with all your family members and you too may save someone’s life.
If you need more information, you can call 1-800-SHARE-NJ or by email at info@sharenj.org.
