Dear Editor:
I am writing in support of Irene Sobolov and the entire Kids First Team; Leon Gold, Rose Markle and Jean Marie Mitchell. I strongly urge you to elect the Kids First Team on April 20th to the Hoboken Board of Education to serve the children, families and citizens of this fine city. I met Irene at Elysian Park 12 years ago when our oldest children were babies. We have become good friends over the years and through her I have had the pleasure of getting to know all of the other dedicated individuals that make up the Kids First Team. By electing Irene, Leon, Rose and Jean Marie to the BOE you will give the district a team that will continue to be just that, a group of individuals that share a passion and resolve to work towards a common goal, to make the public schools in Hoboken the best they can be possibly be.
It is no easy task to initiate change, it takes an enormous amount of drive, dedication and determination and from what I have seen and know of these four individuals they have what it takes. Making difficult decisions for the students and the districts best interest are not always the most popular ones. This is where true leadership is tested and this is where the Kids First Team has shown their strength. By letting the former administrators know they could not run roughshod over the district, to supporting and organizing tours for the Hoboken High School in order to get families to realize just some of the programs Hoboken public schools have to offer, to making fiscally responsible decisions in the most recent school budget, they have shown us that we, Hoboken, are capable of being a fiscally sound school district with excellent resources that fosters and supports successful academic and creative education for all students.
Respectfully,
Patricia Kelly
