Question: In high school baseball, are all players (starters and subs) required to be listed on the lineup card?
Answer: At the pre-game conference, the umpire-in-chief will be provided with lineup cards which must include name, shirt number, position and batting order for starters. Eligible substitutes should be listed as a courtesy but are not required. Subs can be added at a later time. (Rule 1, Sec. 1, Art. 2)
Question: In high school softball, at the pre-game meeting the lineup cards have starters and eligible subs listed by last name only. Is this acceptable?
Answer: Lineup cards must include first initial and last name, jersey number, position and batting order. Listing of subs is recommended for reference. First initial is required for proper identification for players. Although it is a technical violation, mistake is corrected when discovered without penalty. (Rule 3, Sec. 1, Art. 3 & 4)
