Alessandra Vanore of Hoboken helped lead the 16 & Under New Jersey Quarry Cats to the championship in their league playoffs in girls’ hockey of the Mid-Atlantic Women’s Hockey Association Tier II at the Ice Works in Aston, Pennsylvania. Teams from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland participate in the league. The Quarry Cats won with a combination of relentless defense and timely passing. On March 6, the QCats defeated the Hatfield Angels by a score of 4-1, and on March 7, won the title in a 3-1 victory over the Pennsylvania Quakers in the championship game. Alessandra is a 9th grader at High Tech High School in North Bergen. Try-outs for next year’s Quarry Cat teams will be held in April and the Quarry Cats field teams in age categories from 12 & Under to 19 & Under. The Quarry Cats welcome new skaters, and play a competitive schedule for more experienced hockey players.
