JERSEY CITY — Hudson County Prosecutor Edward J. De Fazio announced Friday the arrests of Darmelia Lawrence, 19, and Latonia Bellamy, 19, both from Jersey City, in connection with the murders of the Jersey City couple Michael Muchioki and Nia Haqq. A third suspect has been charged but name has not been released.
The young couple, who were engaged only five months ago, were killed Easter Sunday morning after an attempted carjacking near their Randolph Avenue home failed and both were each shot twice. A funeral service for Haqq took place in Newark and the funeral for Muchioki is taking place today in Jersey City.
DeFazio said the three accused actors are charged with the following: felony murder, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, and possession of firearms for an unlawful purpose.
DeFazio said the investigation is ongoing.
