NORTH BERGEN AND BEYOND — A shoplifting incident at a North Bergen supermarket allegedly turned to robbery on April 5, police said.
A Union City man was caught allegedly attempting to exit the store around 6 p.m. with Similac baby formula when a store employee tried to stop him, said police.
The resident allegedly assaulted the employee and allegedly threatened to kill him.
“He [allegedly] grabbed the guy’s shirt collar and tried to pull him down to the floor and then he struck him in the chest,” said police.
He also allegedly told the employee that he was a gang member and that “…when he got out of jail if he sees him on the street, he’ll kill him,” according to police.
The man was charged with robbery and terroristic threats.
