HUDSON COUNTY — In Hoboken, Jersey City, Secaucus, Guttenberg, North Bergen, and Weehawken, residents will be voting on a school board ticket two Tuesdays from now, as well as whether to pass or reject the tax levy portion of the budget for the next school year.
In Weehawken and Guttenberg, the slates are unopposed, but residents will still have a say in the school budget.
Watch this weekend’s Reporter papers for stories on the candidates. If you don’t have kids in the schools, the school budget still affects you – making up one of the three components in quarterly property taxes (the other two come from the municipal budget and the county budget.)
If a school budget is rejected, it normally goes to the City Council or Town Council for more suggestions. If the council and school board can’t agree, it may go to the county superintendent of schools.
