NORTH BERGEN — The Hudson County Board of Freeholders voted 8-0-1 Tuesday night to back the county Planning Board’s decision in June
2009 to allow developers to build a three-store development into the rocks on River Road.
Activists had protested the development, and went before a judge to force the freeholders make a decision on their appeal. The freeholders
had at first chosen to ignore their complaint completely.
The freeholders were presented with the option to affirm the county Planning Board’s decision to grant a developers hardship stay,
allowing the project to go forward, or to remand the decision back to the county Planning Board.
Tuesday night, every county freeholder board member voted to stand by the Planning Board’s choice, except for Freeholder William O’Dea, who said he abstained because he
did not believe that the Planning Board necessarily had sufficient evidence to move forward.
They voted Tuesday night to allow Avak Properties and U&G Development to build three stores. The stores will include a Walgreen, bank, and coffee shop.
The site is located across from Palisades Medical Center and is currently being cleared away for development.
