Safety in county parks

Dear Editor:
As your Sheriff one of my efforts upon being sworn in on January 1, 2008 was and continues to be the safety of the county parks in every area of Hudson County. With the beautiful weather approaching people look forward to enjoying the outdoors and activities in our county recreation areas. Our officers on patrol are ever vigilant to ensure that all persons in the parks are able to enjoy the areas in a safe and secure manner.
We enforce all county and municipal ordinances to enhance the quality of life for all in and around the areas of our parks and public properties. Further we want to make certain that anyone operating a motor vehicle in the parks do so in accordance with the law. It is to be noted that in 2008 and 2009 the amount of 11,223 citations were issued by our officers in the area of motor vehicle violations and violations of county and municipal ordinances. The parks included are North Hudson Park (Braddock Park) in North Bergen, Washington Park on the Union City/Jersey City border, Laurel Hill Park in Secaucus, Bayonne Park in Bayonne, Lincoln Park in Jersey City and West Hudson Park in Kearny/Harrison.
On behalf of all in our office we wish all our residents and their visitors a safe, happy and healthy summer. If anyone finds it necessary to report improper activities in any of our county parks contact our Communications Desk at 201-915-1300 and relate the circumstances to officers on duty.

Respectfully submitted,
Juan M. Perez
Sheriff of Hudson County
