SECAUCUS – Kids in Secaucus will get a second Fishing Derby this Saturday, thanks to last weekend’s rain.
The town’s 20th Annual Fishing Derby was held on May 8 at the Anthony A. Just Duck Pond in Secaucus. About 80 local kids competed in the derby and prizes were awarded for largest fish, smallest fish, youngest fisher, and other categories.
Rain and lightening, however, cut the Derby short after about 90 minutes.
To make up for the truncated event, the town will hold a whole new Fishing Derby at the Duck Pond on Saturday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. The same prizes that were awarded last week will be given to an entirely new crop of fishermen and fisherwomen.
Ahead of the Derby, workers from the Secaucus Dept. of Recreation will add bass and catfish to the sunfish and carp that already live in the Duck Pond.
