HUDSON COUNTY — Three towns are having municipal elections Tuesday night, although Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner and his Town Council members are running unopposed. Thus, the ones to watch are Bayonne and Union City.
In Bayonne, Anthony Chiappone and Leonard Kantor are vying to unseat Mayor Mark Smith. A council at large seat and three ward council seats are also in contention.
In Union City, Frank Scarafile and his candidates for the Board of Commissioners hope to unseat Mayor Brian Stack and his incumbent commissioners. Technically, Scarafile and Stack are also running to be commissioners, but after the election, the five commissioners will choose a mayor from among themselves. Stack and Scarafile expect to get the nod from their allies.
