UNION CITY–The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is hoping to speak with the owner/operator of a car that may have been somehow involved with the murders of two Union City residents.
The dismembered bodies of Lazaro Calero, 49, and Maria Torres, 48, were found in bags on the side of the road in Linden last month.
According to DeFazio, both victims were strangled and then dismembered inside their first-floor apartment near Fourth St. and Bergenline Ave. in Union City before being transported to Linden.
This week, the prosecutor’s office released images captured from surveillance video of a silver/gray Saturn L-series four door sedan around the time of the murders. Investigators estimate the model of the car to be between 2000 to 2002.
DeFazio said that investigators believe that the car may be bearing New Jersey license plates as well as some sort of decal on the rear windshield on the drivers side.
The surveillance video also captured images of the man driving the car, which have not been released.
DeFazio has said there were no signs of forced entry at the apartment where the two victims were killed and they do not believe that the deaths are gang or drug related.
A motive still has not been established for the murders.
Anyone who has information on the car in the surveillance images and/or any other aspect of the investigation should contact the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Homicide Squad at (201) 915-1345.
