Light rail arrests net men with $25,000 in unpaid fines

BAYONNE — Police arrested two men on the Hudson Bergen Light Rail for allegedly lacking valid tickets — only to discover they both allegedly had outstanding unpaid fines totaling nearly $25,000.
According to the Bayonne Police, the two men arrested on May 19 near the 34th Street station were Charles Bordeaux, 27, of Armstrong Avenue in Jersey City and Patrick Holmes, 22, of West 44th Street in Bayonne as they traveled toward the 22nd Street station. Police alleged that Bordeaux had an expired ticket while Holmes had no ticket at all.
A criminal background check showed that Bordeaux allegedly had three outstanding warrants for unpaid fines totally $13,500, and one warrant from Hudson County Superior Court which required an appearance before a judge.
Holmes, police said, had an outstanding warrant from Bayonne for unpaid fines totally $10,000.
Both men were charged with theft of services and sent to Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.
