At any age

Dear Editor:
My name is Amanda and I live in Hudson County. I was wondering if by any chance you were aware that May is Stroke Awareness Month! With that said did you know that babies, infants and children have strokes too.
Well I for one didn’t until my daughter was diagnosed in June of 2008 at just 10 months. It is believe that she suffered her stroke in utero. Meaning in the womb or shortly after birth. Because stroke in babies and children is such a neglected field many parents and doctors are not aware of the signs and even the proper treatment. Many children may have an underline reason to why they have a stroke and can be treated early but others like my daughter have no underline cause. The general public has to be made aware that strokes do not just happen to older people. Some babies and children are at risk. Its almost like a ticking time bomb! Parents have to be aware of the signs so that they can help get treatment as fast as possible early treatment is the key to recovery.
My daughter, now almost 2 yrs later, is still fighting to recover and gain full movement of her right side. Thankfully she has been making great progress.
Hudson Reporter please help me bring awareness to the general public that strokes do not discriminate because of age!!!
