N.J. v. Mateo is the real issue

Dear Editor:
This letter is in response to E. Assata Wright’s article in the May 16th Secaucus Reporter. Some things should be made clear that was not in this mentioned article. To say that the case “was not an issue whatsoever” is a disgrace of the Democratic Party. You have someone on your ticket that is currently being charged with stealing. If that’s not an issue, I guess you’re playing politics “as usual.” To say the case lays with the burden of proof being on Laura Maffei, as attorney Miller stated, is ridiculous. The case is the State of New Jersey v. Nancy Mateo, NOT Laura Maffei v. Nancy Mateo, maybe as Mateo’s attorney he should get this straight.
As part owner of Fifth and Front, you were absolutely correct in saying she is not involved in the “day to day” operations to say the least. Even when she showed up for work her customer service skills were atrocious. For her (Mateo) to state, “I really don’t think this (the case) has any bearing on the election.” Is an unreasonable assumption that the voters of Secaucus don’t understand that holding an elected office is much like running a business. When you get overwhelmed or bored, you can’t just run away. I hope the voters of Secaucus are smarter than Miller and Mateo think they are. I’m not fortunate enough to get to vote on this one, but I have many friends and family, who are citizen, residents, and most important voters in Secaucus. They understand when something is being pushed in front of them. They will not be voting for her. I hope the rest of the voters agree. We have to stop letting criminals run our government!
